First off, this was nothing short of probably the most adorable graphic novel I’ve ever read. Secondly, I love magical girls, always and forever. Thirdly, I never knew I needed magical zombie girls until now, but it turns out I did. Fourth, the color pallet and art throughout this entire story is beyond words beautiful. And lastly, this showcases how girl friendship can be the most powerful magical force in the world, and I loved this.Oh, and this is about magical girls who all embrace a different zodiac sign. Like, can I yell how perfect this is any louder? This story embraces and celebrates body diversity, ethnic variety, and multiple sexualities! Like, there was a text message in this using the pan hearts and I promise you that I was hollering over it for at least fifteen minutes.I loved this! I loved how unconditional friendship was always at the forefront. I loved all the diversity (Molly is Asian, Lily is Black, Emma is for sure not white at the very least, Savi is a bi/pan main character, and Lily is a lesbian/bi/pan main character)! I also loved the constant portrayal of grief from Emma. I will always love seeing girls ditch abusive boys and getting with sweet girls, let’s be real. And this was nothing short of a treat to read! Also, it feels like a good standalone, but I want so much more from these girls and this world! I can't wait until July! Oh, and I’d commit a minor felony to get a Virgo Zodiac! You all, pick this graphic novel up!
A fun, gorgeous book that pays homage to the Magical Girl genre in a sincere way. Kevin's writing is heartfelt and funny, and Paulina's art is absolutely gorgeous. The perfect mix of teen drama with plenty of action and wicked battle scenes. If you're a fan of Buffy, Sailor Moon, or Powerpuff Girls this comic is right for you.
I had never read this comic book series before and figured I would give it a try. It reminded me very much of Sailor Moon but with the Zodiac signs. It also reminded me of Jem based on the girls fighting other girls, trying to figure out who they are, etc storyline. It's pretty much a combo of 1980s/1990s anime and girl power cartoons. Perfect for both young and old, and it's one that doesn't seem cheesy either. It's spot on for girl power and empowering girls to be who they are, while telling a wonderful story.
I cannot express how much I enjoyed this comic! I'm a pretty big fan of all things magical girl related and this was such a nostalgia trip in every good way. The story was simple, but the characters had a lot of depth and variety to them. I can't wait to read more and get to know these characters. Can we get more of the Victorian Zodiac Starfore? Please? ;)The art is also amazing! Great character design, color work and details. The art definitely fit the tone of the story, working together perfectly.I can't praise this book enough. I don't see a lot of stories like this these days and I plan to keep supporting this book in the future!
I love the issues Of Zodiac Starforce but I absolutely love this volume! I get to read all of those issues in one and preserve them. Zodiac Starforce is the best magical girl comic series ever! I love the plot, the character development, and the art! I highly recommend this to any girl who love magic and girls who kick butt!
Magic, girls who kick butt, diverse romance and a fresh take on the magical girl genre! Good for all ages, but probably best for a young adult or young twenty's audience. Such a beautiful love letter to the romantic cartoons of the 90s, this book spins the magical girl genre in a refreshing light. Completely full of complex, interesting female characters with lots of queer and POC representation, this book is a great read and a delight to look at. Would definitely recommend to old fans of the genre as well as newcomers! ♥
